Former Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has heaped massive praise on Kimi Antonelli following his historic milestone in Formula 1. According to the veteran Italian motorsport figure, the young sensation possesses pure racing DNA forged through karting, matching the foundational path taken by some of the greatest legends in the sport's rich history.
Speaking to the media, Montezemolo highlighted the genetic speed and natural instincts shared between the newly crowned talent and past world champions. “I have seen all the F1 champions and I know it is too early to make comparisons. But Antonelli has enormous talent,” Montezemolo stated, emphasizing the crucial role that competitive karting development plays in shaping a generational driver.
“It does not surprise me that he also comes from the formative experience of karts. My Michael Schumacher had that DNA, as did Ayrton Senna and Max Verstappen. I realize these are huge, enormous names. So I'll stop here, history will tell us if Kimi can equal the exploits of such illustrious predecessors,” he added, acknowledging the heavy expectations now resting on the young Italian's shoulders.
Beyond raw pace, Montezemolo praised his refreshing personality and maturity behind the wheel. He noted how the driver combines natural speed with a calm temperament, allowing him to absorb high-pressure situations effortlessly while representing the Mercedes squad.
Furthermore, the strategic handling by team principal Toto Wolff was highlighted as a masterstroke. By introducing the youngster during a transitional campaign, the team allowed him to learn through mistakes without the crushing obsession of immediate championship pressure.
