Jorge Martin has sent a clear message to Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez amid the fierce title fight in MotoGP 2024. The Pramac Racing rider insists he is not intimidated even though his lead at the top of the standings is shrinking. Instead, he is confident about the upcoming circuits that he believes will suit his riding style.
At the Aragon GP at MotorLand, Martin was not among the standout performers. Two fifth-place finishes in the sprint and main race might seem ordinary, but given the bike's lack of grip, it was actually the maximum possible result. He was aware that the team's potential at Aragon was limited, so he chose to play it safe to secure valuable points.
The consequence is that Marquez has now closed the gap dramatically in the standings. From a comfortable margin, Marquez is now just 19 points behind. Bezzecchi, who impressed at Aragon, is also closing in and becoming a serious threat. But Martin is not panicking. For him, Aragon is a special circuit that is clearly not his favorite, and he already has a plan for the upcoming races.
“I'm satisfied, my goal is always to improve. We had good progress this weekend, unfortunately we lacked pace, but today I finished closer than on Friday,” Martin told Sky Sport MotoGP. He also admitted that a chance to move up to fourth was there, but the risk was too high. “I nearly crashed twice, so I decided to settle for fifth,” he added.
Martin stressed, “I'm not afraid of anyone, I focus on myself. The next tracks are very good for me, and I'll work hard to keep this position until the end.” He mentioned Misano as one of the circuits he looks forward to. Remember how competitive his bike was at Silverstone? He believes Misano has similar grip characteristics, so the chance to perform strongly there is wide open.
Martin's statement is certainly a signal to his rivals. Marquez and Bezzecchi might be enjoying the moment, but they know the season is still long. If Martin truly finds his best form at his favorite tracks, the championship could shift quickly. The race for the 2024 MotoGP title is getting more exciting to watch.
