Christian Horner has taken a cheeky swipe at former Haas team boss Guenther Steiner, highlighting his lack of Formula 1 podiums despite shooting to global fame through the Netflix hit series Drive to Survive.
Steiner's tenure managing the minnow squad from 2014 to 2023 was defined by an uphill battle against the sport's powerhouse outfits. During his leadership, the team endured two last-place finishes in the constructors' championship, with their absolute peak being a fifth-place finish back in the 2018 season.
Despite a severe lack of on-track success and race wins, Steiner's unfiltered personality and frequent use of colorful language made him an overnight fan favorite on television screens worldwide. This massive wave of popularity even paved the way for the release of his personal book titled Surviving to Drive.

Reflecting on the television phenomenon, the long-standing Red Bull team principal explained to Autosport how extensive video editing shapes public perception of paddock personalities. "These guys are making a TV show, so they take hours and hours and hours of footage and it's all about how you edit something," Horner stated regarding the documentary's production.
He further emphasized the stark contrast between media stardom and actual engineering success in the pinnacle of motorsport. "Guenther Steiner has made a career off the back of itgI mean, I don't think he ever achieved a podium in Formula 1! But good for him. He is a character, quite a scary character when he worked for us, but yeah, it's brought a whole new fan base into the sport, which has been fantastic," Horner concluded.
