Marquez Explains Why He Told Injured Hadjar to Skip Dutch GP

Marc Marquez has opened up about his advice to Isack Hadjar, who decided to withdraw from the Dutch Grand Prix. It wasn't just about pain, but about a racer's perspective on a long-term career. Marc Marquez himself knows the bitter consequences of rushing a comeback.

Hadjar, the Red Bull driver of French-Algerian descent, suffered a wrist injury during a gym session a week before the race at Zandvoort. Despite initially wanting to race, he eventually chose to sit out after discussions with team principal Laurent Mekies and Marquez, who both advised focusing on recovery.

In an interview with MotoGP.com, the Ducati rider admitted Hadjar reached out for advice. "I'm not a doctor, but he asked for my opinion. Sometimes it's hard to accept skipping one race to prepare better for the next," Marquez said.

The Spanish rider emphasized that missing one race won't change your life, but worsening an injury could. "I learned from experience. The Jerez injury changed my life," he added, referring to the severe crash at the 2020 Spanish MotoGP that nearly ended his career.

That Jerez incident became a turning point. Marquez attempted to return just days after surgery, but the plate in his arm weakened, forcing him to miss the entire season. It took four operations until 2022 to regain much of his arm's mobility.

Hadjar's absence opened the door for Liam Lawson, who was promoted to Red Bull, while Yuki Tsunoda moved up to Racing Bulls. It remains unclear when Hadjar will return, with the next race at Monza on 4-6 September.
