Marc Marquez Salvages Crucial Points at Mandalika 2026

The race weekend at the Mandalika Circuit delivered dramatic championship twists for Marc Marquez as he fought hard at one of the most challenging tracks on the calendar. According to reports gathered from Motosan.es, the nine-time world champion left Indonesia with a much better outcome than initially anticipated in territory that historically troubles his riding style.

Securing victory in Saturday's Sprint race temporarily returned the Cervera rider to the championship summit. However, Sunday's main Grand Prix proved to be a different test as Aprilia showcased supreme pace. Marco Bezzecchi clinched the grand prix victory, with Raul Fernandez taking second and Jorge Martin rounding out the podium in third place.

Although he crossed the finish line in sixth as the highest-placed Ducati rider, the seasoned veteran expressed immense satisfaction with his points haul. Martin reclaimed the championship lead holding 355 points, closely followed by Marquez with 353 points, and Bezzecchi sitting at 309 points. This tight margin sets up an intense battle for the remainder of the season.

Reflecting on the weekend, the Spanish star openly shared his relief and happiness with the championship arithmetic. “A round weekend. I am super happy not to have lost any points regarding Martin this weekend, and only three with Bezzecchi. You tell me that on Thursday and I would have jumped for joy, so we have to be happy,” he explained regarding the fiercely contested standings.

He further noted that the long race was grueling due to tire degradation, yet he praised his ability to suffer and adapt. Mandalika's layout demands a smooth riding style rather than his preferred aggressive stop-and-go approach. By keeping a cool head and focusing on the present rather than past DNFs at the venue, he successfully navigated troubled waters.
