With the championship crown firmly within his grasp, Marc Marquez is adopting a pragmatic and measured approach as the premier class heads toward the final stretch of the season. Following a highly successful points haul during the recent Grand Prix weekend in Qatar, the factory Ducati rider is poised to seal his historic world title at the upcoming round in Portugal.
Holding a commanding 60-point lead over Jorge Martin—who sits ahead of Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi—the Spanish superstar knows that raw speed is no longer his primary weapon. While mathematical possibilities still keep his rivals in the hunt, the championship scenario heavily favors the #93 rider, requiring only calculated results rather than desperate victories.

Reflecting on the pace displayed by his competitors in Qatar, Marquez admitted that he deliberately dialed back his aggressive tendencies to prioritize championship points over unnecessary risks.
"Marco was half a second faster than me," he explained during the post-race press conference after securing a crucial second-place finish. "Three tenths, five tenths, nothing to do. You can follow him two laps, but not 22 laps."
"So it was not the time to take that extra risk today. We did it in the previous races. We did it in the sprint yesterday. I take a lot of risk in some races. Now I want to think well what is the situation. I want to think well how many points I need."
Looking ahead to the unique technical challenges and fluctuating weather conditions anticipated at Portimao, the eight-time world champion emphasized that careful management and flawless execution will dictate his race weekend strategy.
"We are going to two racetracks, especially Portimao, with what can be very critical conditions: cold, up-and-down. So, yeah, we need to take care about all those things and just finish races," he added.
Summarizing his strict preparation plan for the two-week break before the European leg resumes, Marquez offered a definitive mantra to keep distractions at bay: "It's time to go home, be super concentrated and just train, eat, sleep, repeat. Like this until Portimao."
