In a surprising turn of events, Louis Sharp has parted ways with Prema Racing in the middle of the Formula 3 season. The decision comes after the summer break, with the New Zealander set to miss the final rounds at Monza and Madrid.
The team confirmed the split, stating it was a mutual decision to allow Sharp to fully focus on his options for the next season. Team Principal and CEO Stephen Mitas praised Sharp's talent and contribution.
"Louis has been a pleasure to have in the team this year and a top talent. His qualifying pace and raw speed were consistently strong, and he brought great energy to everyone around him at PREMA," Mitas said.

Sharp explained that his fading championship hopes influenced the decision. "It's been a challenging year results-wise, and with championship contention no longer realistic, it makes sense to direct my focus towards securing the right options for 2027," he said.
The 2026 season has been tough for Sharp, sitting 17th in the standings with 21 points, but he has shown glimpses of his potential, including a strong recovery drive in Hungary from 19th to 8th.
Sharp's departure raises questions about his future, as he has openly stated that Formula 2 is his goal for 2027. Prema Racing will now look ahead to the remaining races without him.
