Sportrik Media - Kimi Antonelli put Mercedes at the top of the timesheets on the second day of F1 2026 pre-season testing in Bahrain with a 1:32.803. The benchmark ensured the Brackley-based squad finished both test days held this week in first position.
Antonelli lowered the reference time during the afternoon session, when track conditions became more representative for performance simulations. Mercedes’ consistency over longer runs also underlined the early effectiveness of its 2026 package, particularly in managing the revised hybrid energy deployment and active aerodynamics.
Oscar Piastri secured second for McLaren with a 1:32.861 after taking over driving duties from Lando Norris, who concluded the day in fifth. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen placed third for Red Bull with a 1:33.162 and completed 137 laps, signalling a strong emphasis on data gathering and long-run evaluation.

Lewis Hamilton finished fourth for Ferrari, reinforcing the Scuderia’s competitive baseline in the early phase of the new regulations. Fernando Alonso logged 68 laps for Aston Martin before a mechanical issue curtailed the team’s programme late in the session.
The relatively narrow gaps among the leading teams reflect an exploratory phase focused on correlation and performance mapping rather than outright qualifying simulations. The data accumulated over the first two days will be critical as teams prepare for full race simulations ahead of the season opener in Bahrain.
