Formula 1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli beat Max Verstappen to pole position for the United States Grand Prix as practice pacesetter Ferrari watched its challenge crumble in a dramatic qualifying session.
Antonelli came good as the qualifying hour went on, beating Verstappen by 0.179 seconds in Q3 to clinch his seventh pole position of the season, while Isack Hadjar made it two Red Bulls inside the top three.
The young Italian was one of three drivers—alongside Mercedes team-mate George Russell and McLaren's Oscar Piastri—to navigate Q1 on medium tyres in order to save an extra set of soft tyres for the decisive Q3 showdown.

Despite having a big correction on the exit of the Turn 13 right-hander during his final flying lap, Antonelli's earlier benchmark stood strong. Both Red Bulls failed to improve their times due to track-limits offences, while Charles Leclerc could only manage fourth place for Ferrari.
Reflecting on the session, Leclerc's team-mate Lewis Hamilton salvaged fifth, whereas Lando Norris saw his late improvement deleted for track limits, dropping him down the grid behind his fellow McLaren driver.
