The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix 2026 qualifying session at Austin delivered a breathtaking twist as Kimi Antonelli snatched a sensational pole position. The Italian driver mastered Q3 with a blistering lap time of 1:34.035, edging out his main rivals to secure the ultimate spot at the front of the grid for tomorrow's race.
Ferrari's dominant pace throughout all three practice sessions vanished when it mattered most. Max Verstappen, heavily tipped as the favorite for the top spot, had to settle for second place, finishing 179 milliseconds behind the championship leader.
Milton Keynes showcased further progress with an impressive third place for Isack Hadjar. The young charger stopped the clock just 36 milliseconds adrift of his teammate's benchmark, underlining the immense step forward made by the team.

Meanwhile, Ferrari experienced a subdued qualifying result after leading the practice charts. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were forced to settle for fourth and fifth positions respectively, just ahead of Lando Norris's McLaren.
Further down the order, George Russell suffered a difficult session, plunging down to seventh place over four tenths behind his pole-sitter teammate. The top ten was rounded out by Oscar Piastri in eighth, alongside Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly following grid penalties applied ahead of the main event.
