The European Formula 4 season concluded in dramatic fashion as Kenzo Craigie claimed the E4 championship title at Autodromo Nazionale Monza following a nail-biting season finale. The young British driver's road to glory was far from straightforward, having suffered a heavy crash earlier in the weekend that nearly derailed his championship ambitions.
Demonstrating ultimate team-play in the final race of the year, his R-ace GP teammate and fellow Mercedes-AMG F1 junior Andy Consani gracefully yielded position on the final lap. This crucial maneuver allowed Craigie to secure the exact position needed to clinch the drivers' crown on countback after a fierce season-long points battle.
Third place at the checkered flag was enough for the Mercedes-AMG junior to seal the championship, finishing level on points with race winner Luka Sammalisto of US Racing. The Briton ultimately prevailed on countback thanks to his four victories throughout the campaign, edging out the Finnish contender by the narrowest of margins.
Earlier action at the historic Italian venue saw intense wheel-to-wheel battles and multiple safety car interruptions that shook up the grid. Ary Bansal capitalized on late-race chaos to claim victory in the day's opening encounter after long-time leader Augustus Toniolo was caught up in a dramatic multi-car collision near the end of the race.
The high-stakes finale underscored the relentless competitive nature of the junior single-seater ladder, with strategy and precision driving dictating the championship outcome. According to Formula Scout reports, the fierce battle at Monza cemented a memorable conclusion to an unforgettable championship fight.
