Formula E, Sportrik Media - Joshua Dürksen, a development driver for Mercedes in Formula 1 and a recent Formula 2 Sprint race winner, will make his Formula E debut during the upcoming rookie test in Madrid.
The full-day test will take place next Sunday at the Circuito del Jarama following the inaugural Madrid E-Prix, with 20 drivers scheduled to take part. Dürksen will drive for Citroën Racing and partner fellow Mercedes development driver Theo Pourchaire.
The 22-year-old Paraguayan driver is currently competing in his third Formula 2 season with Invicta Racing. He began the 2026 campaign in Melbourne with a victory in the Sprint race, further raising his profile among teams evaluating emerging talent.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Citroën Racing for the rookie test in Madrid,” Dürksen said.
“Formula E is a championship completely new to me, so to have the chance to drive the GEN3 Evo car and work with such an experienced team is a fantastic opportunity.”
“The goal for the day is to learn as much as possible about the car, the systems and the way a Formula E team operates. It’s a completely different challenge compared to other single-seaters, especially with energy management and the technical side.”
Dürksen is not the only current Formula 2 driver confirmed for the rookie test. Kush Maini will once again drive for Mahindra Racing, while former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat and former F2 racer Richard Verschoor are also part of the lineup.
Citroën Racing team boss Cyril Blais expressed enthusiasm about working with the young driver, noting that the rookie test offers teams an opportunity to evaluate emerging talent in the Formula E environment.
“We’re also excited to work with Joshua for the first time,” Blais said.
“He’s a driver we’ve been following closely, and this is exactly what rookie tests are designed for — giving emerging talents the opportunity to demonstrate their ability in a Formula E environment.”
“It will be valuable for both Joshua and the team as we continue our development programme with the GEN3 Evo package.”
The Madrid rookie test will give Dürksen his first experience with Formula E machinery and provide teams with additional development data as they continue working with the latest GEN3 Evo package.
