As the Formula E championship prepares to enter its high-performance GEN4 era for the 2026/27 campaign, Jake Hughes has officially been confirmed to join the American outfit. The British driver will partner Pepe Marti, marking a significant milestone for the squad as they enter a season without fielding a rookie driver on their roster.
Bringing extensive electric racing experience to the team, Hughes started his journey with McLaren during the 2022/23 season. He famously secured a pole position in just his third race appearance before adding three further poles and a maiden podium finish in Shanghai. He subsequently spent the 2024/25 campaign with Maserati MSG Racing, claiming his second career podium in Jeddah before taking on reserve duties.
Beyond his electric single-seater credentials, Hughes also served as a Formula 1 test and simulator driver for three seasons, working closely with top-tier engineering groups. This robust technical background is viewed by management as an essential asset for developing the brand-new 600kW, all-wheel-drive GEN4 machinery that will define the upcoming competitive landscape.

Sharing his thoughts on the new chapter, Hughes expressed immense delight. "I'm over the moon to be joining CUPRA KIRO," he stated. "It feels like it's been a long time coming. The team has built the foundations of something very special and hopefully, we can kick on and bring even more success." He further noted that the incoming technology suits his natural driving style perfectly as preparations ramp up for pre-season testing.
Team Principal Russell O'Hagan echoed the positive sentiment regarding the acquisition. "We're very excited to welcome Jake to CUPRA KIRO for the coming season," O'Hagan noted. Highlighting the driver's renowned one-lap pace and developmental feedback, the team principal emphasized how vital those traits will be when hitting the track at the Circuito del Jarama in Madrid ahead of the season opener.
