The Formula 1 paddock at the Circuit of the Americas was suddenly abuzz with speculation regarding the future of Cadillac's driver lineup. The issue arose after a cryptic statement delivered by team executive Marcin Budkowski during the official FIA press conference on Friday.
The situation began when Budkowski was asked about speculation linking Esteban Ocon to a position within the American squad. The question revolved around whether the French driver would join the team following his departure from Haas, considering that Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez had secured multi-year deals at the start of the 2026 season.
Instead of providing a firm confirmation regarding the security of his two main drivers for the 2027 championship campaign, Budkowski offered a response that sparked major question marks. "This is the last place I would comment on driver contracts in general; I think it’s not something that is done in the press," he stated at the time.

Addressing the commotion in the paddock, Bottas finally spoke out after the qualifying session on Saturday. The Finnish driver insisted that he is not worried at all about the swirling rumors concerning the continuation of his career within the Cadillac squad.
"No, no," he said when responding to reporters. "I mean, I’ve heard some rumours, but I know my situation, and it’s all good. It’s Formula 1; everyone wants to be in Formula One, so that’s how it goes."
Meanwhile, the driver market continues to churn as several strong candidate names emerge in pursuit of a main race seat. Alongside Colton Herta who made a Free Practice 1 appearance this weekend, Ocon's name is also strongly linked as a potential option given his wealth of experience in top-tier motorsport.
