Formula E 2026 Transfer Market: Taylor Barnard Joins Fortrescue Zero and Jake Hughes Signs with Cupra Kiro

Taylor Barnard is officially set for a fresh chapter in his Formula E career ahead of the 2026/2027 World Championship season. Since making his category debut in 2024, the young British driver has broken numerous records for precociousness, ranging from the youngest driver on the grid to the youngest to secure a pole position, a podium, and ultimately a race victory at the London E-Prix.

As the championship transitions into the new GEN4 era, the 22-year-old will switch allegiances to a brand-new outfit. Following the departure of DS Penske, the newly formed Australian entry Fortrescue Zero Racing has acquired the historic American-backed structure and immediately secured Barnard to lead their maiden campaign on the grid.

Reflecting on this exciting new challenge, Taylor Barnard shared his high expectations for the upcoming season with the team's cutting-edge electric vehicle development program.

"I am thrilled to join Fortescue Zero Racing and help build something from the ground up," said Taylor Barnard. "This is a new team with big ambitions; I want to help turn those ambitions into concrete results on the track. Fortescue Zero has a strong background in developing high-performance electric technologies, and I can't wait to collaborate with the team to push that technology further and faster than ever before. We know there is hard work ahead of us, but that is what makes this opportunity so exciting. I can't wait to get started."

Meanwhile, the 2026/2027 season will also witness the full-time return of another British driver to the Formula E grid: Jake Hughes. Having debuted in the 2022/2023 campaign with McLaren and subsequently racing for Maserati before serving as a reserve driver for Mahindra, Hughes is now gearing up for a fresh start with Cupra Kiro.

The arrival of the GEN4 technical regulations provides an ideal platform for Jake Hughes to unleash his potential in a competitive environment that suits his driving style.

"I am thrilled to join CUPRA KIRO; it is a moment I have been waiting for," stated Jake Hughes. "The team has laid the foundations for something truly special, and I hope we can take a further step forward and achieve even more success. It is very exciting to tackle a new era with the arrival of GEN4: we will have fast cars and plenty of technology, characteristics that I believe suit my driving style perfectly. I can't wait to start pre-season testing, get behind the wheel, and get to work. Hopefully, we can win some races!"
