Jorge Martin Responds to Pedrosa After Securing Third Place at Japanese GP 2026

Jorge Martin successfully defended his championship lead in the 2026 MotoGP standings after grinding out a valuable third-place finish at a demanding Motegi circuit. The Spanish rider admitted that the podium result was the absolute maximum potential he could extract from his machine following a difficult start and a lonely race.

Racing in a vacuum for the majority of the Grand Prix, the championship leader analyzed his performance during media rounds with DAZN, noting that the front-runners simply had an unreachable pace during the Japanese weekend.

"Yes it's true, in the middle of nowhere, I don't know if it's good or bad, but I felt good, I was doing a good rhythm. It is true that I started very badly and then I had to recover positions quickly," Martin stated regarding his recovery drive through the field.

Discussing the technical limitations that prevented him from matching Saturday's stellar pace, Dani Pedrosa prompted the Aprilia rider to explain the garage's conservative approach regarding tyre pressures to avoid any regulatory infractions during the grand prix distance.

"Today my team was going to play it safe with the pressure, and I suffered more on the track. Yesterday the sensations were brutal, but today my team was probably playing it safe and I suffered more, I think that's what I missed to get a little closer to the guys in front," he explained.

Looking ahead to the final stretch of the championship battles, Martin emphasized the importance of damage limitation and consistency over outright victories when the title fight reaches its most critical phase.

"Same distance and one race less; the leadership comes today, the important thing I think is to be in the fight. There are days when you win points, days when you lose, but the important thing is not to make mistakes, to get the maximum," Martin concluded.
