Jorge Martin successfully reclaimed the top spot in the 2026 MotoGP world championship standings following a daring maneuver during the main race at the Indonesian Grand Prix in Mandalika. The Spanish rider executed a brilliant long-range overtake in the early stages to secure a crucial third-place finish.
Intense battles unfolded right from the start as Marc Marquez made a strong getaway, attempting to pass Raul Fernandez on the outside to grab third place. Meanwhile, Martin endured a trickier opening phase, initially dropping down to sixth position before mounting his recovery charge.
By the third lap, the tension peaked as Martin launched a stunning surprise attack from afar to pass the Ducati star. This calculated move instantly reshaped the track rivalry and dealt a significant blow to his closest championship rival's rhythm.

Following the overtake, Marquez struggled to maintain his pace and soon found himself under immense pressure from Pedro Acosta and Ai Ogura. Tyre pressure issues and physical strain dropped the eight-time world champion to sixth at the checkered flag, though he finally completed a premier-class race at Mandalika for the first time in his career.
The Indonesian GP result completely shakes up the title race with five rounds remaining. Martin now leads the overall standings with 355 points, holding a razor-thin two-point advantage over Marquez and a 46-point gap to Marco Bezzecchi. Reflecting on his podium charge, Martin emphasized the intense physical demands and tire management required throughout the weekend.
