Joan Mir will receive a factory-specification Ducati when he joins Gresini Racing for the 2027 MotoGP season. The detail confirms that the 2020 world champion will retain official technical support despite leaving Honda’s factory team.
Gresini’s announcement stated that the team’s technical status will remain unchanged, with one official factory motorcycle available in its garage for Mir. The Spaniard will inherit the level of support currently provided to Alex Marquez as the leading rider within Ducati’s satellite structure.
“The status of the BK8 Gresini Racing Team remains unchanged, with an official factory bike in the garage available to Joan Mir,” the team stated.

Mir has been a factory rider throughout his MotoGP career. He entered the premier class with Suzuki in 2019, won the world championship the following season and later moved to Honda after Suzuki withdrew from the series.
The move to Gresini places Mir on a similar path to former team-mate Marc Marquez, who previously left Honda to join the Italian squad. Mir, however, will enter the project as MotoGP introduces its new technical regulations and 850cc engines in 2027.
Although every manufacturer must begin the new regulation cycle with a newly developed motorcycle, the distinction between factory and satellite specifications will remain. Officially supported riders are expected to receive priority access to new components, aerodynamic updates, technical data and development direction throughout the season.
Mir’s status means future team-mate Dani Holgado is expected to use a satellite-specification Ducati. Holgado will make his premier-class debut, giving Gresini a new line-up that combines a world champion with a rookie for the 2027 campaign.
The rider announcement was accompanied by confirmation of a new multi-year agreement between Gresini and Ducati. General Manager Gigi Dall'Igna described the Italian team as an important partner within Ducati’s technical and sporting structure.
“The BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team represents a key partner within our project, and we will continue to work side by side with continuity,” Dall'Igna said.
Four of Ducati’s six MotoGP seats for 2027 have now been confirmed. Mir and Holgado will form Gresini’s new pairing, while Marc Marquez remains within the factory structure. Official machinery will give Mir direct access to Ducati’s principal developments and an opportunity to return to regular front-running contention after a difficult period with Honda.
