Andrea Iannone is officially set to return to the MotoGP paddock from Mugello 2026 after joining Niti Racing in the FIM Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup.

The Italian rider, known as “The Maniac”, will make his debut aboard race-prepared Harley-Davidson machinery during the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Mugello on 29-31 May. Iannone is scheduled to contest the remaining rounds of the 2026 season through to the finale in Austria.

Niti Racing has expanded to a three-bike line-up featuring Iannone alongside Oscar Gutiérrez and Dimas Ekky Pratama. His arrival brings major experience to the team given his previous success as a race winner in both MotoGP and WorldSBK.

Technically, Iannone’s transition into the Bagger World Cup presents a unique challenge due to the very different characteristics of Harley-Davidson race bikes compared to MotoGP prototypes or WorldSBK machinery. Increased weight, larger dimensions, and distinct power delivery require significant riding style adaptation.

“I like challenges, especially those that take you out of your comfort zone.”

“These bikes have a strong personality. You have to respect them, but at the same time you can push them hard.”

Iannone also revealed that he will begin the project without a full testing programme compared to his rivals. However, he described the situation as perfectly aligned with the competitive mentality that has defined his career.

“I’m not coming just to participate.”

“I want to understand the bike quickly and become competitive immediately.”

Team manager Angela Khuu described the signing as an important step in maintaining the team’s momentum following a positive start to the season in Austin. Meanwhile, Harley-Davidson Global Racing Programs director Jeffrey Schuessler labelled Iannone’s arrival as a strong statement regarding the championship’s growth.

Iannone’s presence is also expected to significantly boost the category’s international visibility, especially at Mugello, one of MotoGP’s most iconic venues. Support from Italian fans and Iannone’s popularity are likely to become major attractions throughout the race weekend.

Beyond the racing itself, the Mugello Bagger World Cup event will feature open paddock access, a Harley-Davidson Village, and dedicated fan areas. The format forms part of the championship’s strategy to create a more immersive premium motorsport experience closely connected with modern MotoGP audiences.
