Lewis Hamilton has shared his thoughts on Max Verstappen extending his contract at Red Bull until 2030. According to the Ferrari driver, the move will not significantly alter how the public views the four-time champion's legacy.
Hamilton and Verstappen had a fierce battle in 2021, ending controversially in Abu Dhabi. However, since the ground effect era began, they have rarely fought at the front due to differing car performance. Now Verstappen chooses to stay with the team that raised him, while Hamilton seeks a new challenge with Ferrari.
For Hamilton, Verstappen's decision to stay was not surprising. He admitted he had not given it much thought. "I've not really put any thought to it, so not really," he said when asked if he was surprised by the contract extension.

When asked if Verstappen staying is good for the championship, Hamilton bluntly replied, "Of course. Why would it not be?" That response underlined that the competition remains healthy with a driver of Verstappen's caliber.
Hamilton himself is chasing a record-breaking eighth title, his first with Ferrari. He has won championships with McLaren and Mercedes, and now faces a new challenge. Interestingly, he believes Verstappen does not need to switch teams to prove his ability.
"I don't really have an opinion on that necessarily. I don't know if it makes a huge difference," said Hamilton. "He's with a great team. He's been with them a long, long time, and they just keep going from strength to strength; it's a really amazing place to be and to work, clearly."
Hamilton also touched on drivers who move around. "When you look at the history of drivers that do move around, and some drivers that have moved a crazy amount, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. But, obviously, the easy thing is always to stay where you're comfortable, and that's his choice, and it's not a bad choice," he concluded.
