The Australian Grand Prix weekend at Phillip Island has faced severe disruptions as extreme weather conditions forced race control to abandon multiple events on Sunday. Following a series of continuous delays throughout the morning, organizers officially confirmed the cancellation of both the Moto3 and Moto2 races due to ongoing safety hazards.
The primary issue paralyzing proceedings at the iconic circuit was severely restricted visibility, which completely grounded the emergency medical helicopter. Under strict championship safety regulations, starting any on-track racing session is strictly prohibited unless the medical helicopter is fully operational and capable of immediate flight in the event of an emergency.
This unfortunate development means that rising talents such as Collin Veijer and Zonta van den Goorbergh will not get the chance to compete on Sunday. Earlier in the morning, the premier class warm-up session was also scrapped as track conditions deteriorated under relentless wind and fog rolling in from the ocean.
Meanwhile, the fate of the premier class race hangs in the balance as organizers closely monitor the shifting meteorological patterns. Race control announced that the pitlane will remain closed until at least 16.00 local time, with any further action entirely dependent on a noticeable improvement in visibility and safe flying conditions for medical personnel.
The widespread cancellations and prolonged delays deliver a deeply disappointing blow to competitors, teams, and passionate fans gathered at the circuit. Everyone had hoped for a thrilling conclusion to the weekend, but Mother Nature ultimately dictated an abrupt end to Sunday's scheduled schedule.
