MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo Team believes the GP26 carries a “different” DNA compared to previous Ducati machinery, yet considers it better suited to his riding style ahead of the 2026 MotoGP season.
The two-time world champion endured a difficult campaign with the GP25, feeling the package moved away from the characteristics that had previously made him competitive. During the 2026 pre-season test in Buriram, Bagnaia appeared more consistent from the outset and concluded the test fourth overall, marking a tangible step forward compared to the same stage last year.
“For me, it’s different, but it’s working better for my riding style.”

Bagnaia highlighted improvements in the bike’s base balance and braking approach, although he admitted he is still searching for greater consistency under heavy deceleration, particularly when entering corners at higher speeds.
“Last year I was struggling from the start. During this test we worked quite hard on used tyres and on understanding the bike. I think we did another step in front. I’m still missing something.”
“[I’m looking for] a bit more consistency on braking, because sometimes I can brake well and sometimes the bike shakes a bit, but it’s because we’re arriving faster into the corner.”
Bagnaia completed a Sprint simulation on Saturday but was unable to finish a full grand prix run on Sunday due to a minor technical issue. He stressed that such setbacks are acceptable during testing rather than on a race weekend.
“Pre-season ended much better than last year, so my feeling is great. Now it’s time to start fighting into the season.”
With the GP26 showing improved alignment with his braking style and race-pace management, Ducati head into the Thailand MotoGP 2026 opener on a stronger technical foundation than 12 months ago. The first practice session on Friday will provide the first competitive validation of that progress.
