Formula 1 has announced a surprising new licensing partnership with renowned camera manufacturer Leica to release a special-edition camera inspired by the motorsport world. This innovative collaboration bridges the gap between high-end professional photography and the fast-paced aesthetic of top-tier single-seater racing, offering fans a fresh perspective on capturing unforgettable moments.
This strategic expansion beyond the racetrack is part of a broader commercial push by the sport's management. Previously, F1 has ventured into various lifestyle and toy industries, most notably through popular merchandise ranges created alongside LEGO. The brand's footprint continues to grow exponentially alongside its surging global audience and mainstream cultural appeal.
The newly unveiled Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 camera is scheduled to hit the market on October 21, 2026. The device features distinctive design elements, including a non-slip Microvelour covering directly inspired by the tactile material found on a modern F1 car steering wheel. This thoughtful inclusion brings the authentic feel of the cockpit straight into the hands of photographers and motorsport enthusiasts alike.

Further enhancing its exclusive appeal, the camera bears the official F1 logo on the lens cap, while its top plate incorporates genuine carbon fibre materials alongside striking red elements throughout. These specific finishes and colours depart from Leica's traditional aesthetic, deliberately chosen to seamlessly fuse high-performance motorsport engineering with optical precision. It represents a meticulous blend of form and function tailored for passionate collectors.
Leica has taken the partnership a step further by engineering a dedicated colour profile tailored specifically for this camera model, prioritising heightened contrast and richer saturation levels. This custom profile is fully accessible via the companion FOTOS app, allowing users to apply the dynamic look live in real-time rather than relying on post-production editing. It marks another milestone in F1's ongoing diversification into global consumer industries.
