FIA Confirms Qatar and Abu Dhabi F1 Rounds Will Proceed as Planned

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has expressed strong confidence that the season-ending Formula 1 races in the Middle East will go ahead as scheduled amidst ongoing regional tensions. Speculation had previously arisen regarding the fate of the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix following geopolitical conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which earlier impacted several motorsport events in the region.

Despite earlier uncertainties and discussions surrounding potential cancellations, talks regarding calling off the two grands prix have dwindled in recent weeks. While F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali previously noted that Imola served as a viable back-up plan should conditions deteriorate, retaining both Qatar and Abu Dhabi remains the championship's primary objective.

Speaking to selected media including Motorsport.com, Ben Sulayem stated that he feels secure about the safety of the upcoming events, pointing out that his own family resides in the region. He emphasized that the situation perceived through international media reports often differs significantly from daily realities on the ground.

"They're fine. One thing I would say, I have my children there — you think I would leave them there, and I'm here now with you?" Ben Sulayem remarked, highlighting his personal confidence in the local security measures.

He also reassured that FIA staff members would not face unnecessary dangers, noting his protective stance over personnel mirrors how he safeguards his own family. While acknowledging the unpredictability of future developments, he confirmed that current assessments indicate no disruptions and both Grands Prix will proceed.
