A brilliant display of pure riding talent was showcased by Fabio Di Giannantonio during the Practice session at the Lusail International Circuit for the Qatar Grand Prix. Beneath his impressive lap time that placed him at the top of the timesheets, a glaring technical issue continues to challenge his weekend campaign.
Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team manager Pablo Nieto openly revealed that his star rider is suffering from a massive top speed deficit compared to the factory-spec Ducati machines, losing roughly 10 kilometers per hour down the straightaways.
According to the team's internal assessment, this drastic speed disadvantage is roughly equivalent to missing around 30 horsepower. Such a vast power gap represents a massive hurdle in the highly competitive modern era of premier class motorcycle racing.

Speaking to the world feed broadcast during the session at Lusail, Nieto elaborated on the ongoing efforts to diagnose and solve the peculiar technical gremlin. The power loss becomes particularly punishing when the riders shift into fifth and sixth gears.
"We are working a lot on that because ten kilometers per hour in MotoGP is a lot," Nieto stated regarding the bike's straight-line speed handicap. "We are talking about maybe, more or less, around thirty horsepower. So, it is simply too much to ignore."
The engineering crew is collaborating closely with factory technicians from Borgo Panigale to understand the anomaly. Everything from aerodynamic configurations to rider body positioning is currently being analyzed to find a viable solution.
"We are working with Ducati, we know that Ducati is taking care a lot about that situation because it is something strange," Nieto added. "Maybe we are also looking at aerodynamics things, the position of the rider, and it can be a lot of things combined."
Given that Lusail features one of the fastest and longest straight sections on the entire calendar, the speed disadvantage poses a severe tactical challenge for the Italian rider throughout the race weekend.
Despite battling such a pronounced handicap on the straights, Di Giannantonio delivered an exceptional performance on track. He outpaced factory star Marc Marquez by 0.142 seconds to secure the fastest time in Practice.
