Ahead of the massive 2027 MotoGP technical overhaul featuring 850cc engines and Pirelli tyres, Fabio di Giannantonio has called for a guaranteed minimum amount of testing time for every rider on the grid. With manufacturers heavily favoring retained riders during the initial development tests, a group of nine riders has been left entirely without running time on the upcoming rubber.

This group includes di Giannantonio—who makes the switch from VR46 Ducati to Red Bull KTM—alongside high-profile names such as Pecco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo, Alex Marquez, Jorge Martin, Ai Ogura, Enea Bastianini, and rookies David Alonso and Dani Holgado. These competitors must wait until the post-season Valencia test before facing a heavily restricted four-day official pre-season program.

Ordinarily, the Sepang Shakedown offers extra track time, but because all five manufacturers will hold concession rank B status by 2027, the session is strictly limited to rookies and test riders. Consequently, established racers switching manufacturers are effectively locked out of vital early mileage.

Emphasizing the sheer scale of the upcoming regulation changes, di Giannantonio argued that treating experienced riders like novices without adequate preparation introduces unnecessary safety risks. He maintains that ensuring equitable mileage and understanding of the new machinery before the opening round is an absolute necessity for the entire grid.

The Italian stressed that equalizing testing opportunities is ultimately about fairness and reliability. Without sufficient data and running time, unexpected technical gremlins during the limited official sessions could severely compromise a rider's readiness when the lights finally go out for the first grand prix.
