Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola has opened up about the contrasting emotions within the team following the cancellation of the main Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island due to severe weather conditions. The unexpected turn of events created a complex mix of frustration and relief throughout the paddock as the championship battle reaches its crucial stages.
Marco Bezzecchi was left particularly frustrated by the missed opportunity to fight for major points on race day. The Italian rider had demonstrated brilliant pace by topping Friday practice, though a difficult wet qualifying session subsequently dropped him down to ninth on the starting grid for the weekend.
Showing strong racecraft on Saturday, Bezzecchi carved his way through the field to finish a fighting fourth in the Sprint. He crossed the finish line just over a second behind race winner Marc Marquez, who capitalized on the chaos to seize control of the championship standings.

Reflecting on the title contenders, Massimo Rivola admitted that injured rival Jorge Martin undoubtedly benefited from the washout on Sunday. The Aprilia executive noted that while some breathed a sigh of relief, his primary sorrow remained directed at the passionate fans who endured the elements since the early morning hours.
The ultimate decision to call off the event stemmed strictly from poor visibility preventing the essential medical helicopter from flying safely. Despite questions regarding why the schedule could not be adjusted like the previous season, Rivola conceded that safety protocols ultimately dictated a disappointing conclusion to the historic venue's weekend.
