Formula 1, Sportrik Media - The Formula 1-themed film F1, starring Brad Pitt, secured the BAFTA Award for Best Sound at the 2026 ceremony in London, continuing a strong awards-season campaign for the production directed by Joseph Kosinski.
The Best Sound accolade was presented to the film’s audio team: Gareth John, Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A. Rizzo, and Juan Peralta. The category recognises excellence in sound design, mixing, and integration — a critical component for a motorsport-based production seeking authenticity in engine tone, trackside ambience, and race dynamics.
Released last summer, F1 follows the story of a retired driver returning to the Formula 1 grid to partner with a rookie talent portrayed by Damson Idris. The production embedded itself within the grand prix paddock during multiple race weekends, filming alongside real teams and drivers to deliver a realistic depiction of the championship environment governed by Formula 1 and the FIA.

The film has already enjoyed significant recognition during the 2026 awards cycle. It claimed Best Editing at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and was also linked to a Grammy Awards success for Best Country Solo Performance through Chris Stapleton’s contribution to the soundtrack.
At the BAFTAs, F1 was additionally nominated for Best Editing and Best Special Visual Effects, underlining the production’s technical strengths across multiple disciplines. Although it triumphed only in the sound category, the nomination breadth highlights its industry impact.
Attention now shifts to the 2026 Academy Awards, scheduled to take place in under three weeks. The film has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects, positioning it as a contender across both creative and technical fields.
With continued recognition from major institutions, F1 has strengthened its standing as one of the most ambitious and high-profile motorsport films ever produced, further expanding global exposure for Formula 1 beyond the racetrack.
