Formula 1 drivers Ollie Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto have avoided severe punishment despite committing a pit lane infringement during the Dutch Grand Prix. The pair left the pit lane to rejoin the track for the restart following the red flag caused by Max Verstappen's heavy first-lap crash, but the pit exit light had turned red as they approached.
Under normal circumstances, such a breach would trigger a 'very significant penalty' as drivers are obligated to obey light signals at all times. However, the stewards ruled that the race was not 'live' at the moment of the infringement, leading to a more lenient punishment—a first reprimand of the season for both drivers.
Stewards' Decision
In their official explanation, the stewards acknowledged that the pit exit light turned red as the drivers were approaching, and while the race had technically resumed according to Article B5.15.2g, the unique circumstances meant no advantage was gained and no dangerous situation was created. Consequently, a reprimand was deemed appropriate.

The incident has raised questions about the reliability of the signaling system, with speculation suggesting a possible technical error. However, no official confirmation has been provided by the organizers.
Race Impact and Standings
Meanwhile, Bortoleto finished 13th after narrowly avoiding a collision during a first-lap spin behind Verstappen. His Audi teammate Nico Hulkenberg scored points in eighth place. Bearman, on the other hand, failed to take the restart as his Haas broke down on the formation lap, and teammate Esteban Ocon also retired from the race.
The 72-lap race was won by Lando Norris, securing back-to-back victories for McLaren around the summer break. This result further solidifies McLaren's position in the constructors' championship, while Bearman and Bortoleto will look to avoid similar incidents in the future.
