The 2026 World Supersport Championship campaign came to a frustrating conclusion for Philipp Ottl after a recurring technical issue dismantled his hopes of a strong result in the final race at Jerez. A broken exhaust pipe robbed the German rider's Ducati machine of crucial horsepower during race two, forcing him down the order to a disappointing twelfth place finish. The mechanical failure mirrored the exact same heartbreak he suffered earlier in the season at Magny-Cours.
Entering Sunday's showdown with renewed optimism after struggling to find sufficient pace during Saturday's opening running, the experienced contender felt confident about his prospects. A clean getaway from the grid allowed him to mix it up in the midfield pack before the sudden mechanical setback drastically hindered his race pace and overall competitiveness around the Spanish venue.
«I had a decent start and was right in the mix, but then the exhaust broke. It was the exact same problem as in Magny-Cours, causing the bike to lose power. That costs about three-tenths of a second per lap, and in such a fiercely contested class, that makes all the difference,» Ottl explained in an exclusive interview with Speedweek regarding the mid-race drama that dashed his top-ten aspirations.

Reflecting on the wider picture of his 2026 campaign, the season was characterized by peaks and troughs, highlighted by his sensational maiden WorldSSP victory at Assen back in April. Although a challenging second half of the year prevented him from holding onto his early top-five standing in the championship standings, the eighth-place overall finisher remains optimistic about the developmental strides made by both himself and the Italian manufacturer throughout the year.
With discussions regarding his 2027 racing program expected to conclude imminently, all signs currently point toward another collaborative chapter with Feel Racing as the championship prepares to welcome the current Panigale V2 platform into the competitive fray next season.
