Emanuele Olivieri Voted FREC Driver of the Year 2026

The 2026 Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) season has officially crowned Emanuele Olivieri as the driver of the year. Based on the annual poll conducted by Formula Scout, team principals and managers across the paddock unanimously cast their votes for the standout R-ace GP driver following his stellar performances throughout the campaign.

This achievement places Emanuele Olivieri among the elite previous winners of the prestigious FREC accolade, following in the footsteps of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Rafael Camara, and Freddie Slater. Not only does he make history as the first non-Prema driver to scoop the award, but he also achieved a maximum possible score, a feat that eluded his three predecessors who each fell just one point short of a perfect tally.

The voting mechanism required all 10 competing teams to submit their rankings of the top 10 drivers for the 2026 season. To maintain strict objectivity, team managers were explicitly barred from voting for drivers representing their own squads. Eligibility was strictly limited to drivers competing in at least half of the championship rounds, which notably excluded fast contenders like Oleksandr Bondarev from the final standings.

Points were awarded on a sliding scale from 10 down to 1 point based on the top 10 positions. With 10 teams participating, every driver held a maximum potential score of 90 points. The top three positions in the poll mirrored the final championship standings, with MP Motorsport's Sebastian Wheldon securing second place ahead of Prema's Kean Nakamura-Berta.

Midfield dynamics also caught the eye of pit lane observers, highlighted by impressive leaps up the rankings from underdog team standouts like Jan Przyrowski and Marcus Saeter. Their resilience and speed against larger outfits reaffirmed their immense potential on the junior single-seater ladder.
