Elfyn Evans has warned that the World Rally Championship must be ready for change to secure its future. The warning comes after a consortium led by former Formula 1 boss Eric Boullier officially took over the championship's promotional rights.
Boullier appeared at a press conference during Rally Paraguay alongside FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem and Cosmobolis chairman Jean-Louis Mosca. He stressed that the sport's DNA would not be touched, but it desperately needed greater visibility.
Big Ambitions Under New Leadership
Boullier wants Saturdays at WRC events to have more of a festival atmosphere. He also emphasised customer focus as a key priority for the new promotional direction.

Evans, who leads the standings and is chasing his first career title, had already met the new promoter in Paraguay. He admitted to only having a brief discussion but felt optimistic about the enthusiasm and big ideas brought by the new team.
Pressure at the Top of the Standings
“We had a brief discussion with the new promoter at the start of the weekend. I saw the president for a couple of minutes in the service park. Of course, we did not have time to discuss very much, but it seems they have a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of big ideas,” said Evans.
“I think we all need to be open to change. If we want to move forward, we will ultimately have to make some changes. Hopefully, we can find a constructive way forward and bring those changes in a good way,” he added.
The WRC continues in Chile next week. Evans holds a 20-point championship lead over team-mate Sami Pajari, who has won three consecutive rallies. The pressure is mounting, but Evans believes change could be the momentum WRC needs for a revival.
