Jack Miller struggled to control his emotions as he spoke directly to the devoted supporters packed into Phillip Island after Sunday's Australian Grand Prix was officially cancelled due to severe weather conditions.
The local rider proudly displayed a special green and gold livery designed specifically for what marked his final home Grand Prix appearance as well as MotoGP's emotional farewell to the legendary circuit located on the Victorian coastline.
Unfortunately, the hard work put in by the Pramac Yamaha mechanics did not translate into a proper racing spectacle, as Miller only got to showcase the striking color scheme during a brief parade lap in front of drenched fans.

The difficult decision came after race organizers were forced to cancel the morning warm-up session, following earlier cancellations of both Moto3 and Moto2 races due to limited visibility that severely impacted medical helicopter operations.
Although officials initially targeted a provisional 4pm pit lane opening time in an effort to salvage the premier class race, visibility failed to improve whatsoever, compelling race direction to call off the event entirely for safety reasons.
Showing his appreciation despite the dismal afternoon, Miller performed a massive stoppie on the home straight before parking his machine, throwing his gloves and boots into the grandstands, and addressing the crowd directly over the public address system.
Addressing the emotional reality of the day, the veteran rider expressed his profound disappointment. This is not good, you guys have sat through some tough conditions today and I am sorry for that, Miller told the grandstands.
At least we got out on track this year, but this is a tough pill to swallow, added the Australian, who admitted he had been praying for rain all weekend long only for visibility to completely ruin the race schedule.
You guys deserve better, all of you have done a fantastic job turning out for Phillip Island, sitting through traffic, sitting through miserable weather and all the rest of it, you guys are amazing, he concluded.
The sole consolation for local motorsport enthusiasts is the confirmation that Miller will return to the famous venue next year, when Phillip Island hosts the opening round of the WorldSBK season during the Australian summer.
Meanwhile, the long-term future of the Australian motorcycle grand prix is set to undergo a major transformation, with the event officially moving to a brand new Adelaide street circuit configuration starting from next season.
