Fabio Di Giannantonio has described his crash in the MotoGP Aragon sprint as feeling like he was 'riding on ice'. The VR46 Ducati rider fell at the penultimate corner on the second lap, just one lap after starting from seventh on the grid.
The crash was a costly one for Fabio Di Giannantonio, who now trails championship leader Jorge Martin by 46 points, a significant blow to his title hopes.
Di Giannantonio admitted he felt a lack of grip from the very start of the 11-lap sprint, pointing to the rear of his bike. 'Since the beginning, the feeling was really bad with the rear part. I'm not one to complain about the rear, but this time it was like riding on ice,' he said.
He explained that during normal braking, the bike would slide and fail to stop. Once the tyre gained a bit of grip, he was out of line too fast and lost the front. When asked if the hot track conditions were to blame, he firmly denied it.
Despite not matching the pace of the Marquez brothers, he believed a top-five finish was realistic. 'We didn't have the pace of Marc and Alex. Our target was to be close, maybe top four or five. That would be great given we struggled here last year,' he added.
He also revealed that the soft tyre was not an option for him, as he lost performance from lap seven. He remained confident in the medium compound, though the result was disappointing.
