A major chapter in production motorcycle racing has officially closed as Danilo Petrucci confirmed that the season finale at Jerez marked his final appearance in the WorldSBK championship. The Italian veteran wraps up a four-season tenure in the premier class, leaving with an impressive tally of three race victories and 19 podium finishes.

Uncertainty had surrounded the Italian's future since mid-summer when the Bavarian manufacturer opted against exercising a contract clause to retain his services for the following year. Complicated further by subsequent rider signings within the factory squad, the experienced racer found himself exploring alternative avenues for his ongoing racing career into 2027.

Initial speculation pointed toward a possible switch to MotoAmerica within the manufacturer's umbrella, though that pathway shifted. While opportunities to remain in the paddock via independent squads such as GoEleven Ducati emerged, a high-profile move across the Atlantic to compete in MotoAmerica with Attack Performance Yamaha appears to be the definitive next step.

Deep emotion filled the pit lane at Jerez as the veteran rider reflected on an illustrious professional journey that began precisely two decades prior in the 2007 Superstock 600 category. The contrast of high achievements and tough final campaigns brought forward a reflective farewell.

Unfortunately, when I am really happy, I always cry, I am crying a lot, so I am really happy, Danilo Petrucci stated. It has been an incredible journey for me. I was coming from nowhere. I have won in every championship I have competed in.

This year has been really, really tough, he added. I want to thank BMW because they helped me a lot. Unfortunately, the outcome has not been good, but I found a really, really good group of people.

Having raced for multiple heavyweight European brands throughout his distinguished career across MotoGP, Dakar, and Superbikes, the Italian leaves behind a unique legacy in modern motorsport history.

I wanted to be a world champion, that is why I joined WorldSBK, he concluded. I tried my best, and I can be happy with that. There is more in life.
