Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Charles Leclerc has been awarded the prestigious title of Monaco Goodwill Ambassador in an official ceremony led by Prince Albert II, reinforcing his status as a global representative of his home nation within Formula 1.
The recognition was presented during a formal event in Monaco, where Leclerc was inducted into the Monaco Ambassador’s Club, an institution established in 1973 by Princess Grace of Monaco. The organisation is designed to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to enhancing Monaco’s international reputation across sport, culture, and public life.
As a driver for Scuderia Ferrari, Leclerc has developed into one of the most prominent figures in global motorsport. He is also among a select group of Formula 1 drivers to originate from Monaco, having debuted in 2018 before stepping up to Ferrari in 2019. Since then, his performances on track, combined with his growing international profile, have strengthened Monaco’s visibility on the world stage.

From a sporting perspective, Leclerc’s contribution to Monaco’s identity in Formula 1 is substantial. He has secured multiple victories throughout his career and established himself as a leading driver of his generation, combining technical precision with consistent high-level performance. His position within Ferrari further amplifies Monaco’s global exposure through one of the most iconic teams in Formula 1 history.
Leclerc’s relationship with Prince Albert II dates back to the early stages of his career, with the Monaco royal family providing long-standing support as he progressed through the junior categories. This honour reflects both his sporting achievements and his role as an ambassadorial figure for the principality.
“It is a great honour for me to receive this role and represent Monaco internationally. I am very proud of where I come from and will continue to give everything to bring Monaco to the highest level,” Leclerc said in an official statement.
Beyond the formal recognition, the ceremony also included a personal element. Prince Albert II presented Leclerc with a wedding gift following his recent marriage to Alexandra Saint-Mleux, underlining the close relationship between the driver and Monaco’s royal institution.
Leclerc’s appointment as Monaco Goodwill Ambassador reflects a broader strategy by Monaco to leverage globally recognised sporting figures in strengthening its soft power. In the modern era of Formula 1, where global reach and commercial influence are increasingly significant, the role of drivers extends beyond competition into international representation.
From a competitive standpoint, the recognition comes amid an important phase in Leclerc’s 2026 campaign with Ferrari. As the championship evolves under current technical regulations, his dual role as a leading driver and national ambassador adds further dimension to his profile within the sport.
Looking ahead, Leclerc’s responsibilities as Monaco Goodwill Ambassador are expected to extend beyond ceremonial duties, potentially involving international promotion, social initiatives, and official representation in global forums. This aligns with the growing role of elite athletes in public diplomacy.
As the 2026 Formula 1 season continues, attention will remain on Leclerc’s on-track performance with Ferrari, alongside his expanded role as an official ambassador representing Monaco at the highest international level.
