World-renowned rallying legend Carlos Sainz is set to relive his golden era of motorsport glory as he steps up preparations for a highly anticipated competitive appearance at the upcoming Rallye de Asturias Historico. The iconic Spanish driver will reunite with his legendary co-driver Luis Moya, recreating the legendary partnership that secured world championship titles together in both 1990 and 1992.

According to reports from RallyJournal, the dynamic duo recently completed a rigorous test day in the Asturian municipality of Aller, specifically around the challenging roads of Bello. During the private test, they climbed behind the wheel of a Ford Escort WRC managed by Daniel Alonso's Past-Racing outfit. The choice of machinery served as a nostalgic nod to their past, as Sainz and Moya famously campaigned the exact same model during their competitive WRC campaign back in 1997.

Despite utilizing the iconic Ford during their recent test sessions, official information released after the run confirmed that their definitive competition car for the rally itself has yet to be formally announced. This leaves motorsport enthusiasts eagerly anticipating what machinery the veteran pairing will ultimately deploy when the flag drops for the official competitive stages across the challenging Asturian terrain.

Event organizers have explicitly clarified that the duo's involvement will extend far beyond simple demonstration runs or promotional parades. While a dedicated tribute event named the Carlos Sainz Tribute will run concurrently alongside the main itinerary, both competitors will take part directly in the rally itself with a genuine competitive edge driving their performance.
