Fernando Alonso has been spotted testing a Prodrive rally car in Morocco, reigniting intense speculation about a potential future entry into the grueling cross-country rally. Footage shared on social media showed the experienced Spaniard behind the wheel of an all-black race machine, contradicting his previous stance regarding the physical impossibility of combining such a demanding discipline with a full-time Formula 1 campaign.
The Aston Martin driver recently signed a contract extension with the Silverstone-based squad, fueling whispers about a surprise secondary project once his premier open-wheel career reaches its next phase. Having previously competed in the legendary endurance event back in 2020, a renewed partnership with Prodrive quickly surfaced as the most logical pathway back into the dunes.
Speaking to media personnel earlier in Singapore, Alonso was quick to downplay the ongoing paddock chatter. I've read the rumours too. But no, physically speaking, I don't think it's possible. It's almost impossible to combine two demanding programs like a Formula 1 championship and the Dakar Rally, Alonso stated.

When I take on my next challenge, I'll announce it myself. Then it won't be a rumour anymore, I'll be the one breaking the news. And that won't happen until I feel my preparation is good enough and it's a risk worth taking, he added, maintaining strict control over his competitive future.
Despite these dismissals, fresh evidence captured on Instagram by Gerard Farre confirmed the test session in North Africa. Adding intrigue to the situation, Prodrive is reportedly shifting focus toward an Aston Martin-branded program after previously collaborating with Dacia on their official rally initiatives.
Furthermore, ongoing logistical questions surrounding the traditional Saudi Arabian venue and potential contingency plans involving Morocco could significantly alter the equation. If the route shifts closer to familiar testing grounds, the barriers preventing the two-time world champion from making a sensational return might just vanish entirely.
