A dramatic moment unfolded during the opening round of the touring car championship when the Ford Mustang driven by Aaron Cameron suffered a sudden and alarming fire beneath its mid-section. The terrifying incident forced the Blanchard Racing Team driver to immediately pull off the track and evacuate the cockpit as thick smoke filled the cabin.
Flames began licking from underneath the chassis as the car entered the 14th lap of the scheduled 79-lap race. After spearing off the asphalt through the Turn 2 and 3 chicane, he managed to rejoin briefly before bringing the machine to a halt on the inside of Turn 4. Fire marshals quickly rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze, the intense heat of which had visibly bubbled the vinyl wrap on the left-rear quarter panel.
Analyzing the unexpected failure, team engineer Daniel Veronese explained that there were two primary hypotheses regarding the root cause of the fire. The first theory points toward a potential malfunction within the Power Distribution Module due to heavy wet running conditions, given its exposed exterior placement. The second possibility suggests that fuel might have leaked onto the scorching exhaust system.

Before the drama unfolded, Matt Payne had been leading the pack closely followed by Cam Waters and others. However, the subsequent deployment of the Safety Car triggered an immediate wave of compulsory pit stops that completely reshuffled the running order down the pit lane.
When the dust settled after the frantic pit window, Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki emerged at the front in first and second places. Meanwhile, Matt Payne slipped down to third ahead of Cam Waters, and Broc Feeney dropped back to seventh following a double-stack procedure in the pit lane.
