The impressive form displayed by Ai Ogura during recent race weekends highlights his growing prowess in the premier class. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider recently secured two solid fourth-place finishes at Sepang, Malaysia, elevating his championship tally to 278 points and cementing fifth place in the standings. Despite his strong momentum, a notable 54-point gap still separates him from Aprilia counterpart Marco Bezzecchi, who holds third place in the overall standings with only a few rounds remaining.
Heading into the upcoming race weekend at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar, the Japanese rider faces a prime opportunity to secure top-tier results and close the gap in the championship table. While the premier class paddock has not raced at the desert venue for an extended period, the rider remains unfazed by the lack of recent track data. "Yes, but that is more or less the case at every racing circuit. There is only a difference of five or six months compared to other tracks, so it should not pose any problem at all," Ogura stated dismissively regarding the track hiatus.
Reflecting on his previous appearance at the Doha desert circuit as a premier class rookie during his early development phase, his performance trajectory has notably improved. His debut campaign at the venue provided crucial learning curves, but expectations within the garage are significantly higher for the current campaign. "I think we can achieve a bit more this time around," Ogura smiled, radiating confidence ahead of the challenging desert weekend under the floodlights.

The layout of the Lusail circuit is widely anticipated to suit the characteristics of the Aprilia RS-GP machine. Analyzing the track design gives the team high hopes for strong sector times across the entire lap. "If you look at the track layout, yes. We can be very competitive in almost all sectors, so it should be a good circuit for us," Ogura confirmed when discussing the team's prospects.
With clear targets established for the ongoing race weekend, the primary focus remains on maintaining high competitiveness from the opening practice sessions through to the main Grand Prix race. Securing strong points is crucial for his aspirations in the standings. "The target for the weekend is the top five," he concluded, setting his sights firmly on another stellar performance.
