As the Zandvoort paddock buzzed with speculation about the future of Formula 1's newest team, TWG Motorsports, owner of Cadillac F1, moved swiftly to extinguish the flames. In an official statement ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, they firmly denied any plans to sell the team or any other part of TWG Motorsport. This clarity comes amid a storm surrounding owner Mark Walter, who is under the spotlight of a US federal investigation.
Sale speculation intensified after Walter decided to sell his stake in the Los Angeles Lakers just 14 months after acquiring it. Despite the investment soaring from $10 billion to $12.5 billion in that short period, the move raised serious questions about the stability of his vast sports portfolio, which includes Cadillac, Chelsea FC, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Federal Investigation and Its Impact
Behind the scenes, Walter faces federal and SEC investigations over alleged undisclosed loans between his own companies. Four intermediary companies within his business empire are under scrutiny. However, no charges have been filed, and neither the Cadillac F1 team nor the company overseeing the development of its Indiana headquarters has been implicated in any wrongdoing.

Interestingly, this statement coincided with a surprising management shake-up: Graeme Lowdon departed as team principal, replaced by Marcin Budkowski. Many linked this move to financial turmoil, but Budkowski strongly denied it. "There was absolutely no discussion about that; there's no doubt for me that there's no influence there," he told media, including RacingNews365.
Budkowski pointed instead to the new factory build, his own appointment, and the prospect of further personnel announcements as evidence of commitment. "I think it just shows the commitment and the investment behind the project," he asserted. Meanwhile, TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss is absent from Zandvoort this weekend, attending the IndyCar race in Washington DC.
TWG's decision to speak publicly underscores how serious the issue is. Amid F1's fierce competition, financial and managerial stability are key. For Cadillac, still building its foundation, this clarification at least signals that their project remains on track, even as the shadow of investigation lingers.
