BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team has seized control of the Bol d'Or 2026 after their rivals, F.C.C. TSR Honda France, suffered a setback during the fifth pit stop. A botched refuelling attempt forced the Honda squad into an unscheduled stop, handing the advantage to BMW #37. With superior fuel efficiency, the BMW M1000RR can run longer stints and one fewer pit stop than its Japanese counterpart. Five hours in, the battle at the front remains intense, but BMW is beginning to pull away.
The race at Circuit Paul Ricard has been nothing short of dramatic. From the start, the two teams traded positions, with lap records falling in rapid succession. Michael van der Mark on the #37 BMW set a blistering 1:52.421, only for Corentin Perolari to respond immediately on the #5 Honda, shaving 0.1s off the benchmark. The pace of both riders had the crowd on their feet, especially through fast corners like Signes and Beausset.
However, behind the fierce duel, fuel strategy proved decisive. The Belgian-backed BMW team leveraged the M1000RR's efficiency to manage their pit stops, while Honda paid a heavy price for their refuelling issue. The extra stop not only cost them time but forced them to chase from behind. By hour five, BMW #37 had built a comfortable gap over Honda #5.
In third place, YART Yamaha Official EWC Team remains far behind. Despite a slow start, they managed to recover and consolidate a top-three position. But the pace of BMW and Honda ahead seems too strong to match. YART must settle for maintaining the gap and hoping for mistakes from the leaders.
Further back, drama struck AutoRace Ube Racing Team. Experienced rider Sylvain Guintoli suffered a heavy crash at Turn 10, resulting in a 40-minute repair. Kenny Foray briefly returned to the track, but technical issues forced the #76 BMW back into the garage. Now back on track, they are languishing in 46th, far behind the leaders.
With plenty of racing left, the big question is: can Honda #5 fight back and challenge BMW #37? Or will BMW extend their lead thanks to fuel advantage? One thing is certain, the Bol d'Or 2026 still holds many surprises.
