The competitive landscape of the Supersport World Championship is set for a major shake-up ahead of the 2027 season. Two-time world champion Dominique Aegerter has officially signed a multi-year agreement with the PTR Triumph Racing squad. This strategic milestone represents the most significant rider signing in the history of the British manufacturer's campaign in the intermediate production-based racing class.

Looking at the historical statistics of the Supersport category, the all-time records remain led by Kenan Sofuoglu with five titles and 43 race victories. Meanwhile, Dominique Aegerter firmly occupies second place as the most successful rider with two crowns and 27 wins, despite having competed in the class for only three full seasons. His statistics outclass former legends such as Sebastien Charpentier and Andrew Pitt, particularly given the modern two-race weekend format.

This high-profile transfer marks a crucial turning point for the Swiss rider following four arduous seasons across different paddocks. His three-year stint with Yamaha in the WorldSBK championship was severely hampered by a less-than-competitive R1 machine, alongside bouts of injuries and illnesses. Furthermore, his return to the Supersport class this season with the factory Kawasaki squad required a prolonged adaptation period, culminating in his solitary podium finish during the season finale at Jerez.

PTR Triumph team principal Simon Buckmaster expressed immense delight in securing the services of such a decorated competitor. The integration of a proven world-class champion is expected to accelerate the development of their new Street Triple 798 machine, pushing the brand closer to its ultimate ambition of fighting for race wins and the championship crown.

I am thrilled to sign with Simon Buckmaster's PTR Triumph team and I cannot wait for the first test with the new bike to evaluate its potential.
