BMW has introduced a new aerodynamic update on its M1000 RR at the Hungary WorldSBK round at Balaton Park, focusing on rear fairing development aimed at improving airflow management and overall efficiency.
Unlike previous visible front wing developments, this update is positioned further back on the bike, featuring two strakes integrated into the rear section of the fairing. The design bears similarities to ground-effect-inspired solutions seen on Aprilia MotoGP machinery, suggesting a targeted approach to controlling airflow in critical areas.
From a technical perspective, the strakes appear designed to manage airflow around the rear tyre, potentially enhancing cooling and reducing turbulence. This can contribute to improved aerodynamic efficiency and stability, particularly during acceleration phases and corner transitions.

The updated fairing was only deployed on the bike of Miguel Oliveira during Friday practice, while team-mate Danilo Petrucci continued with the standard configuration. This selective usage indicates that BMW remains in an evaluation phase for the new component.
Oliveira finished ninth in FP2, although he remained over eight tenths of a second behind session leader Iker Lecuona of Ducati. Petrucci, meanwhile, suffered a crash at Turn 3 during the session, ending his run early and placing 15th in the standings.
Following the incident, Petrucci was taken to the medical centre and diagnosed with a left wrist contusion. His condition is set to be reassessed ahead of the next session to determine his availability for Saturday’s running.
Team principal Shaun Muir offered limited detail regarding the update, indicating that the changes made were relatively minor compared to previous development steps introduced at Portimao and Assen.
Balaton Park remains a circuit of optimism for BMW, particularly following strong results in the previous season when Toprak Razgatlioglu secured a triple victory. The new aerodynamic package is expected to play a role in strengthening BMW’s competitiveness as the 2026 WorldSBK season progresses.
