Rider Miguel Oliveira currently has no fixed date for his return to the WorldSBK grid following a severe incident at the Hungarian Round. BMW team principal Shaun Muir stated that the recovery process for the Portuguese rider will be dictated by medical experts, confirming that Oliveira will be sidelined for both the upcoming Czech Round and the Aragon Round scheduled for late May.

The injury occurred during the Superpole Race in Hungary two weeks ago, where Oliveira was involved in a multi-rider collision with Andrea Locatelli and Sam Lowes. The impact resulted in a concussion and a shoulder injury, necessitating an immediate withdrawal from competitive action. According to the team, a standard recovery window for such injuries is typically six weeks, though Muir emphasized that the team will not rush the process, allowing nature to take its course to ensure full physical stability.

In the interim, BMW has called upon Michael van der Mark to replace Oliveira for the Czech Round. Van der Mark, who is currently integrated into the BMW testing and endurance program, is viewed as the most capable candidate due to his existing familiarity with the machinery. The team has set a performance benchmark for Van der Mark to secure a top-10 finish, which would validate the depth of the manufacturer's current rider pool and the consistency of the bike's setup.

From a strategic standpoint, maintaining two bikes on the grid is critical for the development trajectory of Danilo Petrucci. The utilization of a second rider allows the team to double the data acquisition regarding tire degradation, engine power delivery, and chassis balance across different track conditions. This comparative data is essential for refining the BMW M 1000 RR, as it provides a broader analytical baseline that a single-bike entry cannot offer, thereby accelerating the optimization of the race setup for Petrucci.

Van der Mark's role will extend beyond the Czech Round, as he is scheduled to participate in the Misano test next week and subsequently compete in the Aragon Round. This continuity ensures that the testing team and the race team remain aligned in their technical goals. By utilizing a rider who is already active in the development program, BMW can maintain a steady flow of technical feedback without disrupting the existing engineering workflow.

The earliest projected return for Oliveira is the UK Round at Donington Park, scheduled for July 10–12. The team plans to conduct a comprehensive review of Oliveira's physical condition and medical clearance after the Aragon event. If the five-to-six-week recovery window aligns with the medical benchmarks, the team will reintegrate the Portuguese rider into the primary lineup to resume their championship campaign.
