The Dunlop Super2 Series qualifying session at the legendary Mount Panorama circuit delivered high drama as Bailey Sweeny successfully secured pole position for the second consecutive time. The track was greeted with a damp but drying surface after morning rain, forcing drivers to read the changing conditions carefully while waiting for the absolute right moment to set their flying laps around the iconic asphalt.
Ford dominance was clear throughout the qualifying session as the Blue Oval locked out the top four positions at the head of the field. Piloting the Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang, Sweeny timed his run to perfection late in the session, clocking a brilliant lap time of 2:05.7366s to finish clear of the chasing pack.
Another standout performance came from Ryan Tomsett, who delivered an impressive run for Anderson Motorsport to grab second on the grid. Tomsett pushed hard before ultimately ending up just over two tenths adrift of the pacesetter. Meanwhile, fellow Ford drivers Nash Morris and Lochie Dalton completed a clean sweep of the top four lockout for the Blue Oval contingent.

Further down the order, the Holden Commodore contingent fought hard to break into the upper echelon, with Brad Vaughan emerging as the highest-placed Holden driver in fifth for Brad Jones Racing. Despite initial concerns over the damp morning weather, Sweeny's patient strategy of waiting for the track to improve paid massive dividends.
"It was hard not trying to push too much early because I know the track was going to get better and better," said Sweeny. "When I woke up this morning and it was raining I was a bit worried. It turned out all right in the end. I’ve have some good success here before. I don’t know what it is. I wish I knew what it was. I would do it everywhere else. So far, it’s been a mega weekend." Action will resume with Race 2 of the Dunlop Super2 Series getting underway at 4:10pm AEDT.
