Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the Aragon Sprint in 11th place, far from the points and trailing the fastest Yamahas. A tough weekend for the Ducati rider has been made even harder after his past performances, but his fighting spirit remains unbroken.
After a morning practice session that offered a glimmer of hope, Bagnaia lost his rhythm once the sprint got underway. Traction issues returned to haunt him, preventing any challenge to the race leaders. The two-time world champion admitted the feeling hasn't fully returned, despite small improvements from the previous day.
“Today was definitely better than yesterday in terms of feeling,” Bagnaia told media in the paddock. “This morning we made a small step forward that helped quite a bit, but in the afternoon I struggled especially with traction. We're working on it, because the improvement this morning was quite clear. Maybe tomorrow morning we'll go in the opposite direction and it will help us a bit more.”
With championship hopes nearly dashed, Bagnaia remains defiant. “I come to the track to go fast. I don't care where I'll be next year; I care about the present. I'm here to give my best. Unfortunately, in the last two years the chances to do well have been few. The DNA of this bike doesn't suit me much, and we know it very well, but I will never give up. Throwing in the towel is not like me. And I believe the work in the garage is that of a very cohesive team. Of course, from the outside, when a rider isn't fast, people can think anything, but the support I receive is huge. When you're fast, the direction is clearer, but when you struggle, it's more complicated. Still, we're all working hard to improve.”
The result underscores Bagnaia's difficulties throughout the Aragon weekend. He started the weekend 20th in FP1 and missed the top-10 in qualifying. Now attention turns to Sunday's main race, where he has a chance to redeem himself and aim for a better result. Under all the pressure, Bagnaia stands firm: fight to the end, without thinking about the future with Aprilia.
