Fernando Alonso has called for an end to what he described as excessive criticism directed at Aston Martin following the team's difficult start to the 2026 Formula 1 season. The two-time world champion believes some of the reactions on social media have crossed the line into abuse.
After seven rounds, Aston Martin has scored just a single point, inherited following Sergio Perez's post-race penalty at the Monaco Grand Prix. The team's disappointing first campaign with Honda Racing Corporation has become one of the defining storylines of the season.
Amid speculation linking him with a return to Alpine F1 Team, Alonso reiterated that his commitment to Aston Martin remains unchanged. He acknowledged that rumours are inevitable during difficult periods but insisted his focus remains on the team's long-term project.

"There are always rumours. We've been very badly treated by the outside world, and it's normal because we are underperforming. We are in a bad moment, and when the summer break comes, there are always rumours."
Alonso stressed that his relationship with Aston Martin extends beyond his driving career. He believes the team has the right people in place to recover, highlighting the arrival of Adrian Newey and the Honda partnership despite admitting the team started the new regulations on the back foot.
"My commitment with Aston Martin is beyond my driving time, and I believe in this project. We have the right people, the best with Adrian Newey, and Honda. We started on the back foot, but we're trying to put everything in place as soon as possible. Right now, we're an easy target because we're at the back."
