Alex Rins has disclosed that he began losing vision and feeling dizzy before retiring midway through last Sunday's Misano MotoGP. The factory Yamaha rider experienced alarming symptoms that forced him to withdraw from the race.
Rins explained that migraine-type pain on the left side of his head first appeared at the previous Aragon round. However, the pain disappeared after taking a painkiller. Unfortunately, the symptoms returned with much greater severity at Misano, prompting Rins to undergo medical checks before traveling to the Red Bull Ring for the next round.
"It was the first time in my career that I retired for a problem like I had in Misano," Rins said. "Especially that head pain. 12 laps to the end, I started to lose a little bit of vision. I felt really dizzy."
He added that the issue had started in Aragon, with the head pain fluctuating. "During the Misano GP weekend, I didn't have any big moment like I had [until] the race. After that, I went to the doctor on Tuesday to check. Apparently, everything looks okay. So, I'm doing a bit of physio," he explained.
When asked if he had been given an explanation, the Spaniard said, "It could be stress, the hot conditions that we had in Misano. It could be the crash that I had in Silverstone that maybe did somethingg I don't know. In Aragon I had it before the sprint. I took a painkiller, and it disappeared."
Meanwhile, HRC's Joan Mir, who also retired at Misano due to sickness, will miss this weekend's Austrian MotoGP. This adds to the list of riders struggling with health issues amid a demanding race schedule.
Rins, known for his determination, must now focus on his recovery. He hopes to return to his best form and continue competing on track. The Yamaha team will also be eager for Rins to recover quickly given the intense competition in MotoGP.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of rider health amid the pressures of competition. Hopefully, both Rins and Mir will recover soon and continue to entertain fans with their on-track battles.
