Alex Marquez ended Friday at the Aragon GP in second place, confirming the good form he has carried since Silverstone. The Ducati rider expressed satisfaction with his day's work but highlighted one key area to improve: front-end feel under heavy braking.
“Not bad. I think we did a good job. This morning I started well. We come from a good result at Silverstone, which gives you extra confidence, and I felt good. This is a track I like and it comes naturally to me,” Alex told media including Motosan.es.
He admitted there is still margin to gain in certain corners. “I struggled a bit with front grip, more than the rear. Especially in hard braking zones like Turn 1, 12, 8, and 14. That's where I lose time, especially in Sector 3. The front wheel tends to lock. Tomorrow we need to focus there,” he explained.
Aragon is one of Alex's favorite circuits, suiting his riding style. “I know this track very well from Moto3 and Moto2. It's a difficult track, but the more laps you do, the better it gets. Unfortunately Sector 3, I would remove it, but the rest is beautiful and flowing,” he said.
Despite being competitive, Alex knows Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi are still slightly ahead. “We are still half a step behind them. But every time I feel a bit closer. Tomorrow we'll try to brake later and get more front-end feel. That should give us a big step in lap time,” he said.
Interestingly, Alex also commented on his brother Marc's habit. “Marc always saves two tenths for himself. He never shows everything on Friday. So we have to be ready for that,” he said with a smile.
With tight competition in the premier class, the Aragon weekend promises a fierce battle. Can Alex close the gap? We'll see in qualifying and the race.
